This Sunday morning marks the 2/3rds point in the season. So far road course ace Jason Landry has been having one hell of a season. He has been building on 3 wins this season and in the 8 races counted due to the 2 drop weeks has accounted for 8 podiums, 8 poles, has led 423 laps and an avg. driver rating of 123.97. Needless to say he has been a powerhouse this season. Leaving the rest of the field scratching their heads on how to catch the 56.
One driver, the number 9 of David Medina Sr. has been one step behind Landry it seems at every race this season. Medina’s stat line would make Jimmie Johnson blush, but it’s still not enough to keep up with Landry. Medina’s this season comes in with 2 wins, 6 podiums, 168 laps led, and an avg. driver rating of 111.59. Medina Sr. is only 65 points behind Landry but with only 5 races remaining he will have his work cut out for himself.
Now to the man of the hour, David Owens. With back to back wins at Talladega and Dover today he has plenty to excited about. Owens has been vocal in the league chat about Landry and Medina’s runaway lead in the championship this season but that was before this string of wins. Seems like David Owens has found new life and a new attitude in this season that he thought was all but lost. Now don’t get me wrong Owens still has 157 points deficit to over come in 5 weeks but that’s why we race the races. Owens this year has 2 wins, 3 podiums, also has pole which is a feat in itself since Landry owns 8 of the 10, has led 96 laps, and an avg. driver rating of 99.37 this season.
Owens win at Dover today was a master class at saving fuel.

But it wasn’t as simple as that for the rest of the Bonfire Drivers. There were plenty of huge hits off the exits of turn 2 and 4 today as drivers battled the extremely hot track this morning.

Lap 37 would bring it out the first caution of the race. The 13 of Tim Darby was trying to save his car from hitting the wall as the 55 of Jared Kelly misread the out of control Darby and plowed right into him

On lap 64 Kelly’s bad luck continues.

Restarts on old tires… a tale as old as time

Owens Big Gamble

Owens brought down the number 8 one final time on lap 139. Which means he was able to squeeze out a staggering 61 laps on his final fuel run. A impressive move that would bring home his second win this season.

Down, But Never Out: Owens Reveals Daring Strategy Behind Second Straight Victory
Two races, two wins. David Owens has set the Bonfire Racing Series on fire, but his latest victory at the treacherous Dover Motor Speedway was far from simple. After missing the post-race broadcast interview, Owens spoke with us exclusively, revealing the audacious fuel strategy and sheer grit required to park his car in victory lane for the second consecutive week.
The key to his win? A high-stakes gamble made with more than half the race still to run.
“I made the call to start saving fuel about halfway through the run, right before that first green flag stop,” Owens explained. “Didn’t know if it’d work — but somehow, I stretched it 62 freakin’ laps to the end. That still blows my mind.”
While the fuel-saving was a masterclass in precision, it was his ability to survive the track’s infamous chaos that truly secured the win. Dover’s restarts are notoriously difficult, and Owens found himself a victim of the track’s unforgiving nature.
“Dover’s a restart minefield,” he stated. “On that one restart with Justin Malarkey up front, he lost it and I had nowhere to go. Got tagged with 45 seconds of damage — just had to grit my teeth and dig in from there.”
Dig in he did. Despite the damage, Owens clawed his way back to the front, proving that resilience is just as important as speed. Earning back-to-back wins in a series packed with elite talent is a rare feat, and the significance was not lost on the victorious driver.
“This league’s full of killers. Nothing comes easy in Bonfire,” Owens said, a sense of gravity in his voice. “Just getting a win here takes everything — going back-to-back? That’s a damn statement.”
With this win, Owens has rocketed to third in the standings. Now, his focus shifts to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the monumental task of chasing down points leader Jason Landry. Owens remains a realist, but his determination is unmistakable.
“Next week is Indy. Medina and Landry? Straight-up animals there. I know I’ve got my work cut out,” he admitted. “Landry’s a full race ahead in points — it’ll take some chaos to close that gap, but I’m gonna show up ready to fight.”
“If I go down,” Owens finished, “I’m going down swinging.”
